Student in trouble Help pleaseeeeeeee

Post by ishi_mushi » Wed Jul 13, 2011 6:08 pm

Hi all, this is my first post and hope someone could help me out.

I came here about 6 months ago on Student Visa. I didn't pay my fees in full instead I pay in installments.

From the very outset I'm being humiliated by the college. They are humiliating me on every step. This is really strange and has caused me an immense depression and unable to sleep at nights sometime.

Few of the examples are given below:
1. If I'm bit late in paying my monthly fees they ask me to stand up in front of the class and call my names
2. If late they ask for fine again
3. They won't let me attent the class if I have no calculator
4. No badge they oust me from the class again
5. There are numerous unspecified charges for various parties and fucntions.
6. Staff quite recently puched a guy and police were called.

Actually it's the sort of college I never faced before.

I'm really in depression and wonder if there is any solution for this?

Thanks to all in advance.

If u don't pay ur fee college will stop u from attending the class. That's normal. You can change the college.apply 4 a new visa or even go back and find a university and come back

Thanks for the replies. It is in East London area.

It would be very expensive to go back and apply again and would be the waste of all my fees and expenses so far.

Is it easy to get transferred to another college?

Or what will happen if I stop paying college fees? Would I be considered illegal (even though I have legal student visa) if I stop going to this college?

Many thanks for all your help please.

To tranfer to another college u will have to apply another Visa. If u stop going to college or stop paying the fee then college will inform UKBA then ur current visa in invalid. If u stay longer then ur ilegal

Do they have a student handbook? How do they justify these charges - are they written down anywhere? Extra-curricular activities are rarely free, on the other hand if they are social events they are not compulsory either. Some colleges will charge for trips that are part of the course too.

Punching someone is obviously unacceptable, and often a crime. I am not sure of their justification in getting an adult to stand up in front of the class, that seems to be intended to humiliate you. There should be a complaints procedure for you to follow. The college should also have an accrediting body that you can get in touch with.

On the plus side, as you are paying in installments you are in a better position than someone who has paid upfront. If you change college you may need to apply again for a Tier 4 visa.

Don't get down about it - you can leave.

Thank you very much.

There is no student handbook. They actually have no justification to these charges.

They do humiliate me and few other students as well.

I'm afraid if I follow the complain procedure I'll be in deep trouble as they'll keep grudge againts me.

I have paid travel expenses, college fees and other expenses. Now it the middle of it leaving the college is like a nightmare but at the same time going to college is like spending time in hell.

I'm extremely depressed and really don't know what to do.

Do you think if I leave the college I can live here in UK till the validity of my Visa?

Again very many thanks for all your help.

It must be very upsetting to be treated so badly. However, the power is in your hands, you are simply their customer and can go elsewhere. They need students to survive as a business, and if they treat students badly they will end up with none left.

UKBA may curtail your stay if you leave the college and do not find a new sponsor. How long does your visa last, and when did you arrive in the UK?

Please see here about what do regarding changes during your stay in the UK as a student:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/study ... s/changes/

I do not know which college you are going to, but you may want to report the college to their accrediting body.

Many thanks.

The visa is valid for about 3 years. I arrived in UK in February

Actually it's ok to go another college but financially it's not easier as I already have paid their much of the fees and other expenses. A new visa application, a new sponsor all are going to cost a lot.

Best regards
