Student Visa Advice. MA Graduate applying for another MA

Post by Olliec » Sun Aug 14, 2011 7:16 am

Hi Everyone,

I hope you can advise me as my situation is difficult.

I graduated from a BA (Hons) in December 2007 and then went on the IGS for one year and PSW for the following year as it replaced IGS. My PSW visa expired in January 2010 and I switched to Tier 4 as I started a Master's degree. Now I have finished this course and have 1 month remaining on my student visa.

Apparently I am not eligible for PSW again, and Im struggling to find a job with a company in the Register of Sponsors.

Can I apply for another Masters Degree and extend my visa??? what other options do I have.

Hope you can help me, as you can see my situation is complicated and the rules keep changing.

Thank you

You can only study another course at the same level if your tier 4 sponsor confirms that the new course represents academic progress. What is your current course and what course do you intend on doing next? Do you actually have an offer on a new course.

The other option is to leave the UK. I presume you have been in the UK eight or nine years and want to get to ten years to get ILR.

There is a reason the UKBA has made it harder to drag out studies in the UK, to stop people who are in the UK on a supposedly temporary basis as students from staying forever.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for replying, My current course is a MA Marketing, and I intend to apply for an MBA with another sponsor. I haven't got an offer for the MBA yet.

I have been in the UK 5 and a half years as I was transferred from my home university to the UK. I don't intend to stay forever but I would like to stay a bit longer.

You're leaving it a bit late to get an offer. Some institutions will consider and MBA to be academic progression from an MA but some may not.
