Student visitor - Question

Hi,

Hope someone can clarify.

My cousin intends to come to the UK as Student Visitor.

However according to the UKBA

Hes not allowed to extend his stay.

What we were thinking he can come over for 6 months & improve his English & extend his Visa onto a normal student visa for a year?

Is this not possible?

Possible, if he enters UK with leave to enter as a prospective student.
