I was recently accepted to a master's program at Concordia in Montreal (yay!). I am supposed to start in January according to my acceptance, but am a little nervous about getting the Quebec CAQ and Canadian study permit in time.
I know the general proceedures for immigration but have a few questions.
1. As an American citizen, I am apparently able to apply for my study permit at a Canadian point of entry. What does this mean, exactly? Will the decision be made instantaneously to grant or not grant a study permit? (I know I will need the CAQ at this time) Is this advised to cut down processing times?
2. I recently lived for 10 months in Thailand (May 2005-April 2006). As far as I can tell, this means that I will be requested to get a medical examination. So I did this (I am planning on applying for PR ASAP anyway, so I figured I'd just do it and hope it'll be within a year that I apply...). If I apply at a point of entry, do I need to have the medical results in hand (as far as I know the doctor sends them to immigration himself...)
3. My parents are declaring their financial support of me--in addition to a letter stating their support, what financial info of theirs should I use.
I hope these aren't "easy" questions. I have done SO MUCH research on immigration processes as I've actually looked into a number of avenues (my boyfriend is Canadian and we'd like to live together in Canada, but are as yet unmarried and unable to claim commonlaw status).
I really appreciate the help and advice. This process is so stressful!!!
