Supporting letter for spouse/marriage visa

Post by BK84 » Thu Sep 25, 2014 7:08 pm

My friend is getting married to a man from Tunisia in a few months, and they are going to apply for a marriage visa (I don't know the ins and outs of how this works but I'm sure you know what I'm trying to explain). The friend has asked me to write a supporting letter for their application, but I've no idea what I should be writing. Does anyone have any good resources or examples I could use to help?

(I have looked for this topic, and googled, but have had no luck so far) Any help v. gratefully received :)

Something along the lines of:

I've known my friend x for y years ... I've met her new husband z times in places a,b,c ... they've been together x years, he's great ... so much in love ... can't wait for him to come to the UK. Loved being at their wedding ... lovely people ... such a supportive family.

Of course - don't write what's not true.

Supporting letters don't really count for much - but they do add to the picture. If you haven't met him - there's little point.

Thanks MPH80.

I've never met him, but will write the letter anyway as it doesn't look like a big job from what you are saying. Even if it doesn't really do much support, might be a good placebo for her peace of mind.

Thanks again

Therein lies the problem ... if you've never met him - you can't say how much in love he is ... or how they are together ... or how their families regard him/her etc.

That's what a letter of support would do.

All your letter can say truthfully is: I've known my friend for x years. She's told me she's in love with Y. She seems happy. I wish her the best.
