Switch from IGS to student dependant

Post by 74rayan » Sat May 31, 2008 9:11 am

Hi,
I am on IGS visa which will end in November 08'. My partner is on international student visa and she has another two yrs to complete her degree. Can I switch in to student dependant with in UK. We have planned to marry before applying for visa.
Thanks
Rayan

I think switching to any dependant visa requires an out-pof-country app, wait for others tho.

You'll both need CoA's before being able to marry in UK.

Thanks for ur reply.
We hope to marry in our country when we go for holiday this time. ( we r from india ). Is there a need that we should marry in UK if I want to switch with in UK.
Applying visa from our country is tougher in most cases.

You will not be able to switch from IGS to dependent visa from within UK and will have to make a dependent EC application from India.

Provided you have enough time during your trip to India - get married, immediately apply for marriage registration (a week to get registration certificate or can be arranged sooner), file your dependent application as soon as you get the certicate and enjoy the rest of your holiday while the visa application is being processed (takes about 10-15 working days currently). Just make sure you carry all the necessary supporting documentation with you .. so that the ECO has no reason to reject the application.

If you marry in UK, don't think you'll be able to switch to spouse / dependent visa from within UK. But not sure about this scenario.

Hi,
Thanks for replying,
Problem is ... I can't see any way to make all those in my holiday as I've got only 3 weeks holiday. If I take more than 3 weeks then Im losing my job here.
Only thing is I can marry, come back with her and apply dependant in UK.
As we have been living here nearly 4 yrs now and as I am applying as dependant while both of us are in UK don't you think that they will consider it.
I have a permenant full time job where I can afford all my and her expences. Only thing is employer not sponsoring workpermits, so I can't go for a WP.

As mentioned earlier, you cannot switch from IGS to dependent visa from within UK. It has to be an out-country application.
