Switch from Tier4 (General) to Tier 2 (Dependent)-workpermit

Post by Ide » Thu Jun 08, 2017 12:34 pm

Hi there,

I am a PhD student on tier 4 (General) visa with 20 hrs work permit/week on my BPR. I got married last year to another tier 4(General) visa holder. My husband has now finished his PhD and started to work on a tier 2 (General) visa. I still hold my tier 4 visa and was wondering whether switching to Tier 2 (Dependent) will affect my right tot work in the UK? and How?

Many thank for your advice.

Kind regards,

Ide

You can switch to Tier 2 dependent visa within the UK and work as much as you like for any employer, except you cannot work as a doctor or dentist in training.

Thank you ever so much for your prompt reply. While I was almost certain that a tier 2 (dependent) has unlimited right to work, except form those specific case you mentioned, I was not sure being a student would have any impact on the work permit.

Many thanks.

Your work restriction if 20 hours per week is specific to you tier 4 visa, it does not apply to tier 2 dependent visas.
