Switching from Tier 1 (PSW) to Tier 4. End of the road?

Post by anglophile » Sun May 23, 2010 1:03 pm

I have been wondering, just out of curiosity... I see in the forums people who switch from Tier 1 (PSW) to Tier 4. Given that they won't be able to apply for PSW once they complete their studies, and that a part time job they could have while on Tier 4 is not likely to suffice for them to switch into Tier 1 (General) once the Tier 4 expires; doesn't this kind of movement make it almost impossible to stay in the UK once the 2nd Tier 4 visa runs out? This could be something to think about at least for those who'd like to stay a little longer.
What are the options for those people?

1. Keep extending Tier 4 (by enrolling into new courses, funds permitting).
2. Go back .. earn for a year ... qualify and apply for Tier 1 (General).
3. Tier 2.
4. Marry a temporary UK resident and enter as a dependent.
5. Marry a settled person / British citizen and enter as spouse.
