Switching from work permit to Tier 1

Post by nzahmad82 » Mon Mar 02, 2009 10:04 pm

Hi everyone,I am new to this website.I would want to post a query here and would be much obliged if somebody could guide me with regards to it.
--I am a doctor and currently training to become a GP.I am on a work permit which runs out in August 09 when my training finishes.
Now you can switch from a work permit to Tier 1 but there is only one exception wherein it says that there will not be any employment for doctor in training, which is very unfair.
Moreover on 22nd Feb this was made even more tough as the entry requirement to Tier 1 has been raised to a master's degree starting from 1st April.
I am now in a fix and don't know how to deal with this situation.
Could some one please guide.
Cheers

If your training is complete by the time your visa expires, then you should be able to apply for full;y qualified GP posts on Tier 1. As far as I'm aware, hospital consultants can be appointed on the Tier 1 visa, so there isn't any obvious reason as to why qualified GPs cannot be.

Ah - only just saw your comment regarding the Masters' requirement. How long have you been working in the UK for? Would you qualify for ILR? The alrternative is applying for GP jobs under Tier 2 - but I'm not sure what the competition is like for this these days.
