switching from work visa to a WP holder's dependant status

Post by a11 » Fri Aug 25, 2006 12:32 am

Hi,

Do you know is it possible to switch from an independent work visa status to that of a WP holder's dependant without leaving the country?

Thanks!

Yes,it is possible to vary your residency status from WP holder to WP dependent (this works for Spouses). You can appply through the Managed Migration Department of IND HO.

Its not a common practice but it would depend on your reasons for changing from a WP holder to WP dependent.Lots of Americans,Australians, Canadians and South Africans do change over especially before the expiration of their WP. Also, it depends who you speak to at IND, a Senior Case Worker would give you a more insightful response, but like I said it depends on your reasons for doing so.
