Switching Jobs between Tier2 General (Sudden Termination)

Hi,

I am in between process of switching jobs on Tier(2) General visa.
My new employer has finished the Labor market test but is yet to obtain a COS for me.
However my current employer has already informed the UKBA that my last working date with them is 15Nov that is 3 days from now.
My new employer has assured me that i will get a COS as soon as they can.

Q1: I have requested my current employer to check with UKBA and extend the last working date by a month. Is that possible in this period of time.

Q2: If the current employer is not able to extend the last working date then how long can i stay in the UK ? Because i wont get a new COS till 11th Dec which is for one more month.

what options do i have here.
