I can give you some advice based on my own experience, although the regulations change constantly.

Unless you are being sponsored by a company with a working visa before entering the country, you will need to apply for residency (to get an N.I.E number so you can live & work legally)

The best way to apply is from within Spain at the immigration department at the police stations. It takes 2-3 months to know if it's accepted, although if you are over-staying your visa during this time, it doesn't matter because you will have a form stating that the application for residency is being processed, so it's not illegal.

In my case, the application for residency was denied the first time, although when I enquired about it they said it was just a procedure. So if that happens, don't take it personally. Just apply again, although you might have to wait 3 months before you can apply again, and another 3 months for the answer, which might make it hard to find good work for a long time.

From what I understand about Spain's unmarried partner's rule, I have seen that they do accept it, but the couple must already be living together in Spain for a durable length of time, and wish to continue living together. They must provide evidence of co-habitation, such as letters, taxes, etc.

So, I don't think hamjake can qualify if he lives in a different country.

Why remove your original post after you've got a response? Maybe someone else has got the same problem and could have benefited from it. Bit selfish, innit? :o

I find it a little abrupt to remove the original post entirely - if there are personal identifying details then remove those only.

So I have not read the original post. Was it about a unmarried partner getting a visa to visit spain?

I know a lesbian couple in London, one Colombian and the other British, with a civil partnership who got the apparently normal half-assed rude brush off from the Spanish embassy when they applied for a visa. They then realized they were covered by EU family member rules of Directive 2004/38/EC. With Solvit’s assistance, they were able to get the embassy to issue the visa in under a week to meet the planned travel time.

If you can say something about the situation, I could add more relevant details.
