The effect of marraige on immigration status.

Post by DaddyBear » Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:40 am

After knowing the mother of my 25 year old son for 28 years, we are getting married. I'm currently back in the USA but she is coming over next week. We both have all the paperwork that is needed to be legally married but I would like to query this discussion board. She is under the impression that after we are married, I will no longer need a worrk or residence visa. I have dredged through the internet and can't find anything to either confirm or dispute her belief. I have both written and e-mailed Bonn and not gotten any answer at all. She also says that she is sure that until I have health insurance of my own, that I will be fully covered by her health insurance. That makes some sense to me, since most workers in the USA that have health insurance are able to cover their immediate family also. Any innformation or input that you have out there, would be greatly appreciated. We will be heading back to Germany on 20 January anyway, so I'll find out something then. I just don't want to be caught unawares with regards to the visa. :?:

Can you clarify ... your fiancée ... very soon to be your wife .... what nationality is she? Is she German? Or if not, what nationality is she, and her immigration status in Germany?

If she is German, isn't the answer to your question given by this webpage, found in a couple of minutes thanks to a search on Google.
