Third party support - rental guarantors

Post by Fob » Tue May 06, 2008 7:16 pm

Hello, I'm new here! I'm hoping someone has experience of this.

Does anyone know where the rules stand with regard to rental guarantors, for a spouse visa?

I know that third-party financial support is no longer allowed to support an application. In our case, when I start renting, I know I'll have enough income and funds to pay the rent myself without a guarantor, but a guarantor - probably my dad - may be required by the landlord, because it's the first time I'll have rented.

Do you think this will be OK on an application for my wife to join me, as long as I can show that I pay my rent myself, and won't actually need my dad's support, even though it's in a contract as a necessity?

Rental guarantor is not third party support; it is a commercial back up for the landlord.

The post suggests you do not have your own accommodation, if that is the case your application will be considered on the actual accommodation you currently occupy. If that is your parents house then is it big enough to accommodate the additional person, is it rented or owned, if rented landlord needs to give approval.

If you have rented the new place at the time of application that will obviously be the accomodation that is considered.
