Tier 2 Change of Sponsor

Hello
Have a Tier 2 visa valid until Jan 2018 (started in Jan 2012).
Resigned from sponsor 30 Sept 2015 for personal reasons.
Have not received curtailment letter yet (have not changed address and ready to leave at a moments notice!)
Applying for other jobs to be sponsored.

Question - If another company employs and sponsors can we then apply for Leave to Remain in Jan 2017 (5 years of being in the UK with a Teir 2 visa) OR is the first CoS period now invalid and we need to start over from 0 years to then apply for LtR?
