Tier 2 Child Dependent but over 18

Post by Harshitha » Wed Dec 18, 2013 3:07 pm

Dear Respected Sir/Madam

I would like to know about the work restrictions in my case.

My dad has come to the UK 3 years ago on Tier 2 ICT visa from India. And after 2 years, his dependents I.e my mom and myself came to the UK . I came as a child dependent when I was 17. However , I have turned 18 after I came to the UK. I just want to know about the work restrictions that child dependents over 18 would have in the UK

I am planning to apply for a few apprenticeship programmes and they are asking if I require a work permit or not. I am not sure on what I am supposed to answer to that question.

I would be really grateful if someone could let me about this issue. Or is there anything to be done in order to be able to work here?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Regards

Harshitha

from the immigration perspective there are no restrictions on you working or studying, in fact you needn't have waited until you turned 18.

As to at what age you can start working, and in what form, the rules are different in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. See:

Thank you very much.... :D I had this doubt because I was rejected when I similarly applied for a school leaver program when I was 17 years old. They said that only dependent spouse could work but not child dependent.

So can I just say that I don't require a work permit as I have no restrictions to work?

Anyways thank you for your response.

you are a PBS dependant and are allowed to work. Read the guidance:
