Tier 2 extension query

Post by dribrahimsalama » Tue Dec 10, 2013 2:15 pm

Hi All,

Currently I am on tier 2 visa which expires on the 29th of December 2013. I am working for a university as a postdoctoral research assistant and we have applied for a fund to extend my contract for another year. We have just been informed that our application was successful. The problem that we do not know how long it will take them until we have the fund in the university. It might take 2 weeks or more and for the university to issue me my contract and get me the COS it will take probably another week. In conclusion, I will not be able to put my application to extend my visa before the 29th December 13 (visa expiry date). I need some advice form you guys, am I be able to still apply for extension within 28 days from the expiry date of my current visa. Also, what are my chances?

Thanks in advance

Ibrahim

you can apply within 28 days of the expiry of your visa but the downside is that you cannot work after the expiry date until your application is approved by the HO (therefore make a priority or premium application) and you will not get a right of appeal if the application is refused for whatever reason (therefore make sure that it is 100% compliant with the rules)
