Tier 1 Extension -- Salary Time Lines

Hi All,

I got visa in December 2009 and from then I am worked as a permanent position till May 2010 .. From May 2010 till December 2010 I am working as a contractor...
From January I dont know how the situation would be... Am I eligible to extend my Tier 1 Visa if I dont work ?

As I see I can claim only continues 12 months earnings right? When I can apply to extend my visa .. I mean earliest I can apply I can claim experence and earnings points....
Please suggest.
