If in UK on Tier 1, is Schengen required to visit rest of EU

Post by Jammin » Tue Sep 09, 2008 7:26 pm

Hi,
Been reading a few threads here and havent seen my question answered, so am asking: Once in the UK on a Tier 1 visa, do I still need a Schengen visa to visit the rest of Europe (France, Ireland, Spain, etc.)?

If I do require a Schengen, are they offered in multiple entry visas (1 yr, 2 yr) or is it only single entry and restricted time frame? I've gotten Schengen visas before to visit Europe from US (am Indian citizen) but each time the visa was dated exactly for the date of my trips.

Starting to do research into a possible move to the UK under Tier 1.

Cheers,

On basis of your Tier 1 visa (or a UK resident permit), you can travel to Switzerland without the need to apply for a entry / tourist visa.

For rest of the world (including EU), whether or not you need a visa would depend on your nationality / citizenship.

Yes, you need still need a Schengen visa.

You can get a multiple entry visa, but in my experience it depends on the embassy you go to.

Germany, Austria - will only give visa for the duration of your trip(s)

France - will give 6 month multiple entry visa

Belgium, Netherlands - will give a 3 month visa first, then 6 months when you renew the visa

You need to show flight/eurostar/ferry and hotel reservations for the visa application. You can get a one year visa if you frequently travel for work to the Schengen countries. But I personally don't know anyone who got a multiple entry visa of greater than a year from the embassies in London.

Thanx for the replies. That's what I thought about needing a visa.
