Tier 2 - timelines when switching jobs

Post by .... » Mon Jul 01, 2019 3:23 pm

Hi all,

My situation is as follows -

Currently sponsored by present employer - ending in 2020. I have accepted a job offer from a new employer and the start date in the CoS is 19th August 2019. I have some holiday booked for the first two weeks of August (that is using paid leave with my present employer), so I will need my new BRP before I travel.

However I understand that once my new BRP is issued (even if the issue date is before the start date on the CoS) then I cannot work for my current employer. How will this affect my travel? Would it not be paid leave for my old employer (as I would technically not be working for them anymore - I have to resign as soon as my new BRP is in hand). And it wouldn't be paid leave for my new employer (as I technically haven't started).

Would it be a gap between jobs? Would I have any issues travelling in or out of the UK during this period?

Additionally, I understand that with the new Priority services you keep your old BRP and passport while they issue the new BRP. Does that mean that you can delay the issue date of the new BRP (i.e. can I ensure that mine is delayed until 19th of August?).

Many thanks for all your assistance.
