Tier-1 Visa Traveling to India via EU Country

Post by dilip_gem » Mon Feb 20, 2012 9:22 pm

Hi there,
I'm not sure how relevant my query is to this forum. However, any suggestions are much appreciated.

I'm an Indian Citizen holding Tier-1 Visa valid till Mar-2014. I'm planning for a trip to my homecountry (India) in April. As its being season time I'm not able to find air tickets for the direct flights. Most of the time that I've traveled to India so far is by a direct flight or once/twice transiting via Dubai (for which I didn't require transit visa)..

I was looking for the air ticket prices which are quite high (almost 800-900 pounds )for direct flights or for flights via gulf countries.. However there are plenty of low cost flights which are via EU countries (like via Paris,Zurich,Frankfort, Amsterdam etc).. I was not sure whether we need transit visa to travel through these countries. I understand that it is not possible to fly taking 2 stops in Schengen countries. ( for example London->Paris-> Amsterdam-> Mumbai)

Was wondering if the transit is with just 1 stop (example Bristol->Paris->Bangalore), do I still require a transit visa?

Thanks,
Gem

If you are not going out of the airport, you can have as many stops as u want to travel to India..the transit visa is only required if you want to go out of the airport in case there is a flight gap of more than 4 to 5 hours..
