Timeframe on Marriage to applying for marriage visa

Post by stevejones » Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:31 pm

Hi all,

I'll try and keep this brief... My partner is canadian and I am british and we have been in a relationship over a year. She is now back in canada with no UK visa. We are very committed to eachother and looking at getting married in Canada. Now as soon as we marry she intends to apply for a spousal visa. I have a good job, house and finances etc. She also will have no problem getting a well paid job in her field when here (teaching).

Will immigration look down on the fact that we would be getting married one minute, I would be leaving Canada alone then she would apply for the visa to join me back in the UK? We have not lived together on a permanant basis before but it is of course a very real relationship. Will they accuse us of making it up? that's my worry especially as we would hae been married a question of days by the time they got the visa from my partner in canada?

It is so frustrating all the red tape to be with my partner especially as she is a skilled professional (however not meeting the new criteria for tier 1).

If you have proof that the relationship is genuine and was in existance before the marriage, then it won't matter that you're applying for the spouse visa immediately after the wedding, and you're returning to the UK
while she waits in Canada on her own for the application to be processed.
