YMS still valid?

Hi I re-entered the UK prior to my UK Visa expiring by a few months - and at the time planned to stay beyond the date. I had told the UKBA at the airport this and provided proof that I could support myself and was not planning on working during my time there.

The boarder patrol let me in without a problem ... however they said they were letting me in on a visitor visa - and that they were making my YMS visa null.

Can I contact an agency or someone to figure out if my YMS visa is for sure made null?

I returned home early to Canada way before my intended return date. My YMS expires Dec 24, 2012. I was offered a job by a UK school ... now would we be able to circumvent the RLMT if they hired me now? Is it possible they can?
