No more than 540 days in total & 180 days in one stretch.
She can apply for further leave to remain as a dependant of settled person using FLR(m) very next day. Unfortunately she has to be on dependant visa for 5 years in order to be eligible for ILR.

Wrong advice. Don't give misinformation without knowing OP wife first entry to UK.

sorry Z18 , as I am on similar scenario and I was told by one of the solicitor that my wife has to be on dependant visa before she qualifies for ILR. My wife entered UK on student visa in 2007and i switched to dependant visa in 2008& completed 10 years in nov 2012. My wife is currently on psw visa thats why I presumed op's situation being same as mine and advised without thinking.
