Is work allowed in EU with a UK PR?

Post by anp » Tue May 28, 2013 10:01 am

Hi all,

Got an interview coming up next week with an International company. They did ask whether I am elligible to work in EU (Netherlands). I told them I think so, and that I was gonna check.

I have had my PR for just under a year now. Do I require a work permit in EU? Will my PR be sufficient? If not, how hard is to get one?

Please advise.

PR certainly will not work by itself. If you are holding PR under UK law, you will have to apply for work permit in Netherlands I'm afraid. If you are a family member of EU national, you can most likely work if you are going with your EU partner who will have to make him/herself "qualified"(working/self sufficient etc.) there.

anp: unfortunately for you, the UK (as well as Ireland and Denmark) has opted out of Directive 2003/109/EC Long Term Residents (see paragraph 25 of the preamble).
As a result time spent in the UK under the EEA regulations does not help non-EEA nationals anywhere else in the EU.

I see. Thanks. I guess the only thing to do is to go for the BC.

Since you no longer now depend on the activities of EU national because of having PR in UK. Easiest option will be to upgrade to BC or move to Netherlands with EEA national whose activities can again grant you right of work with 5 years residence permit there.
