Long Term Entry Visa (5 Years)

Post by sushdmehta_fan » Thu Aug 08, 2013 10:37 am

Hi...

I have applied for the Long Term Entry Visa (5 Years) for India. As i couldnt apply for OCI as the waiting time is over two months.

I intend to go to india for 10 days .. Does anyone know if the registration with the FRRO/FRO is complusory. As I dont want to get into the hassle of registration and stuck in India.

Please suggest...

or Should I do an OCI, as well ?

10 days is probably classed as Tourist visit and you do not need to register with FRRO.

FRRO registration is probably only for people who intend to stay in India for more than 6 months who will need to register with FRRO according to following quote from FRRO website.

http://indianfrro.gov.in/frro/
All foreigners (including foreigners of Indian origin) visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Student Visa, Medical Visa, Research Visa and Employment Visa are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)
Information and/or advice provided by me is of general nature and is not intended to substitute for informed professional legal or other professional advice.

I have applied at London for an Indian Long Term Entry (5 years) Visa. Still awaiting...
Does any one knows what sort of endorsement wording it has ?

The reason I am asking is, I need to be sure ' if it has something like -Registration not required else I wont be going to India as registration is not any easy process

As mentioned in the previous post, registration is required only for long term stay i.e. stay beyond 6 months.

hence you'll not be required to register with FRRO.

Edited previous comment: X visa does allow long term stay beyond 6 months.

I have got the five year entry X visa to India which says:

Type: X
No. of Entries: MULTIPLE
date of issue: 12-08-2013
date of expiry: 11-08-2018

Endoresement:

REG REQ IF CONT STAY EXCEED 180 DAYS ON A VISIT

Registration required within 14 days of arrival in India for Visas Valid for more than 180 days
Not valid for Prohibited/restricted and Cantonment areas
Tourist visa NOn Extendable.
Change of Purpose not allowed.

---------------------------------------

Now it agqain confuses me the lines:

'REG REQ IF CONT STAY EXCEED 180 DAYS ON A VISIT'

and

'Registration required within 14 days of arrival in India for Visas Valid for more than 180 days'

are contradictory.

As my visa is clearly valid for more than 180 days ? why the IHC added the second line..

any thoughts ???
