PROTEST

Post by megmog » Thu May 17, 2007 12:42 pm

Ok everyone... we need to DO something about this. I am seriously considering a protest!! When do we get news on the court case... I am going to contact my local electoral candidates.. we all need to do this before it is too late!!

Yeh I thought about that too, but do we really want to upset the powers that be? In the end our (and others to follow) future's are in their hands!
I guess we just need to wait for the outcome of the courtcase & hope it's in the favour of us non-EU nationals & our poor spouses who have to deal with this.
So unfair that instead of us getting a few extra privelleges it seems as though they have lost theirs!
What really gets to me is that at the point of application we should have been told that we don't qualify because we haven't lived in another EU state before. Surely they could see that right off?? Instead it took them 9 MONTHS to tell me what they could have told me from the first time I went to see them.
Then I could have applied for my LTR visa & had it by now! Instead I am back to square one!
GREAT!

Contacting electoral candidates is a waste of time.. tried that. They sympathize and say how sorry they are that you have to wait for the court case to be settled and that they will certainly look at immigration when they get elected in more depth. Protest outside GNIB anyone?? How many people have been denied? How many have been waiting for longer than 6 months now. I am pushing 9.

No we are not going to uoset anyone... we need to go to every candidate who isnt in the progressive democrats (the party of justice minister Michael McDowell.. the man responsible for immigration) and highlight our issues and explain how ridiculous it is that he is campaigning in the US for the ILLEGAL irish immigrants to be recognised and given rights BUT for us people who are legally entitled to be here - he is trying to kick us out!

We need to do this before the court case decision - we need to be putting pressure in the right places!

Class action Lawsuit

Post by archigabe » Thu May 17, 2007 1:09 pm

Yes, we got the refusal today, and it's really stressful living on a single income especially when my wife is pregnant...what if there's a medical emergency and we dont have enough money?

Have you all thought of getting together and launching a mass 'class action lawsuit' like the States? We can all share the legal expenses, and the decision may benefit everyone. We can probably also apply for financial remedy from the Irish government for denying our Human rights, and wrong interpretation of E.U. law.

The original E.U law says nothing about living in another European country.

A protest is a good idea the question is how many people can we get to do it unfortunately im in cork it would take a bit of arranging to get time to come up to do it plus if there is only three or four of us it isnt going to draw much attention.

I don't know, I don't think we can stage a big enough protest.

Post whether you would be willing to come and protest on Tuesday may 22'nd.

Post how many people you can bring and suggest a place.

Like this:
I Will
I can bring 1 person
I suggest the big stick in O'Connell street
i'm with you Guys .. whenever whereever .. i am ready .. i can bring one person with me. By the way what time we should get together? if we can make 12 - 15 or more then it could make some diffrence and also Media wil be involved in it.

Now we are three so far ....

Come on people ... we should do something rather sitting at home and waiting for thier court Decision. DOJ seems breaching every EU Law.

1. Not giving reply on time line i.e. 6 months on EU application
2. Refusing recedancy by saying NonEU should have been living in another EU state Prior to came here.

if we do soemthing we will get something.. sitting at home and waiting isn;t a good plan.

any efford from anyone would be highly appriciated!

I think this is the best idea and I know there are a number of Irish friends of mine who would also join in and support us as they feel this is really turning into an abuse of human rights.

Unfortunately though, if you stage this on a Tuesday, I will not be able to attend as I really cannot take a day off work having just started in a new role.

However I do think that this is something really important that needs to happen.

If you non-EU do not want to partecipate because you do not want to expose yourself for potential future discrimination ( which is understandable ) then maybe the EU husbands & wives should be the ones protesting.

I would have had no problem in doing this if I hadn't just started a new job :(

How we can get more media exposure? Does anyone know someone working at a radio station or something like that???

Yes, I can make myself available for the protest as well!May 22nd is good for me. I am first going to write to the letters page of the free newspapers, 'Metro',Herald and 'Irish times' this week...I am not surprised at this decision, The Irish government is famous for smuggling in Nazi war criminals while denying refuge for Holocaust Victims.
If Michael McDowell decides it's upto him to apply European Laws anyway he wants, he should not have gone and stood in the line for the E.U Aid Billions...
Let's also be thinking of a 'class action law suit' meanwhile...together we can afford to hire a lawyer to sue the Irish government for breach of human rights and E.U laws, maybe even get some punitive damages.

Yes I'm doing the same, writing to the Metro - I'm not the best at explaining myself sometimes though so I hope it will make sense!
