Owning property in India after becoming a British Citizen

Post by ominagpal » Sun Mar 16, 2014 9:41 pm

Hi
I have a property in India and now I will be applying for british citizenship.
After I renounce my indian citizenship will I still be able to continue owning that property or will they ask me to sell or will I have to let them know?

Can somebody please help and guide me as to what should I do?
Untill I find this out I dont know whether to apply for my british citizenship.

Thanks

You can still have the property in India after becoming the BC.

If you have not yet Googled the benefits of Overseas Citizen of India, have a look. That will help as well....

If you have OCI, you cannot buy the agricultural land.......

What does it mean for farm houses? I jointly own a farm house with my mother. Now I have renounced by Indian passport and have an OCI. Do I have to give up the co-ownership?

Well, one cannot buy something that one already owns (without selling it first).
OCIs cannot "buy" agricultural or plantation properties.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!
