8 month gap passport expiry

Post by phospholipid » Fri Apr 04, 2014 9:42 pm

I've already sent off my naturalisation application in January 2014, and I had my passport from july 2007-2012 where it expired. I then got an extension on March 2013 to March 2015. Could you please advise if I should have proved evidence of being in the UK for this time? I never thought about it, and the lady at the NCS said it is not necessary as I have no stamps on my passport (I haven't travelled since I've gotten my passport). It would be very difficult for me to provide evidence as I was a student, and during that time it was summer break (I can provide evidence from September 2012-March 2013 only).

Please advise,

Thank you

You should be ok if you have not traveled, supplying a couple of council tax statements wouldn't have hurt.

Sorry to bump this up again, but should I send supporting documents to the home office that I was here during that 8 month period before they ask for it, or should I wait to see if/when they contact me?

Sending some supporting evidence wouldn't hurt.

Thanks,

I'll go to my old sixth form college to get evidence that I was resident in the UK from Sept 2012 - March 2013, but I'm having troubles thinking of evidence to provide from July-Sept 2012. I was on summer holidays and did not work during this time, so the only real evidence I have is bank statements. Could you please suggest alternative evidence, or would a bank statement be enough?

Bank statements should be fine.

Just updating for anyone who is in a similar situation:

I did not send the home office any documents, and they did not ask any questions - I received my approval about 3-4 months after the application date.

Hi this is very helpful as I am in similar situation as you.
I have my appointment with NCS next week & I'm stressed out because I don't know what documents to provide as I have gap on my passport. I was a student during that time and I only have my certificates.

Hello,

I realised this after sending my application but if I had have known before hand I would have provided:

- Bank statements during the gap
- Letter from a school stating your attendance
- Letters from doctors if you had any appointments

As well as this I would have included a covering letter explaining that as I'm a student and wasn't working it is very difficult to provide evidence, and that you have included what you can.

Just note that I did not provide anything (but I had it ready if they asked) and I received an approval.
