Previous earnings regarding

The guidelines state that

You can claim points for previous earnings in any single, consecutive 12-month period during the 15 months immediately before the date of applying.

So, if I am applying on 4th of June, 2014 can I submit the following months as proof of my previous earnings?

01 - September, 2013 to 30 April 2014.

Salary for a total of 8 months (as I have the necessary funds for the points I require), namely salary earned on

• 15 September, 2013
  15 October, 2013
  15 November, 2013
  15 December, 2013
  15 January, 2014
  15 February, 2014
  15 March, 2014
  28 April, 2014

Or, does it have to be from May, 2014 counting backwards?

Yes, that is fine for any 12 months in the last 15 months.

any 12 months in last 15 should be alright

4/jun/2014 - 15 months = 4/mar/2013
any continuous period <=12 months after 4/mar/2013 is fine.
To be safer side, you might want consider present total earnings >= total earnings submitted for the previous visa application.
