Dependent's degree mentioned on PBC,still need to pass exam?

Post by muditmalhotra » Tue Jun 17, 2014 4:23 pm

Hi

We are closing to our ILR, me and my wife.

I get points for degree taught in English as my degree was mentioned on PBC
but for my wife, her degree is also listed on points based calculator so does she need to clear English exam or her degree would be enough to satisfy the English language requirement ?

Regards
M.

Why do you have to make it complicated?

Her degree is mentioned in calculator, it's in English, so that's it. Don't imagine problems where none exist.

If you want to feel more safe, print out pages 37-39 of this form, and bring them to PEO, if you apply in person:

please note that u need to submit the print out of the PBC for your wife's degree as well

 A printout from the points-based calculator, confirming the equivalent level of the
degree, and that it was taught or researched in English. The printout must show the
degree has been awarded at least 20 points, and an additional 10 points for English
language.

Dude this is what the page 37 of the above document says

They do not need to show a formal speaking and listening qualification. The qualification
must be deemed by UK National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) to meet
the recognised standard of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the UK.

You can accept that a person has a relevant qualification if they provide:

 A printout from the points-based calculator, confirming the equivalent level of the
degree, and that it was taught or researched in English. The printout must show the
degree has been awarded at least 20 points, and an additional 10 points for English
language. Or
 If the degree is not on the points-based calculator:
o An English Language Assessment (ELA) from UK NARIC, which will confirm that the
degree was taught in English. UK NARIC will only issue an ELA where they are
satisfied that the qualification is comparable to a UK Bachelor’s degree. Or
o A Statement of Comparability (SoC) from UK NARIC confirming the qualification is
equivalent to a UK qualification. They must also provide an original letter from the
university or awarding institution on official headed paper, confirming the applicant’s
name, the title of the degree, and that the qualification was taught in English.

Now if u ask why your wife needs to show that degree needs to fetch 20 points what can i say u should ask UKBA who made the rules :) if not you can get an UK naric English assesment letter which will suffice the requirement. One of my Friend who didnt give the PBC and UK naric letter was rejected for ILR

Is it also required for someone who is applying for a dependent visa from india as a spouse of a person who is a British citizen? Do we need to prove that we have 20 points for degree as well as 10 for English? Please let me know which PBC can we use for such application as I don't see one for dependent visa.

Thanks
Vikas

If she is applying as dependent of British Citizen, i guess posting it in the correct forum will get you reply quickly as this one is only for ILR !
