ILR for Tier 1 General - English test for main applicant

Post by khurram2015 » Mon Jun 01, 2015 6:09 am

Hello Experts,

I will be applying for ILR in under 7 weeks time and am on tier 1 general visa. My question is about English language requirement for my self i.e., main applicant. I used IELTS test certificate in my initial application in 2010 and the same was used successfully in the extension application in 2012. I was satisfied that I can still use it in my ILR application but now when I read the SET(O) form I am confused as it does not say that previously used test (IELTS in my case) is acceptable or can be used again.
1. Do I need to take an English test again?
2. If yes, which test it would be?

Best regards

Yes, the Set(0) form isn't clear for English language proof for main applicants, however, I have known many tier 1 general migrants who have shown there previous IELTS certificates (used at the time of entry clearance) without any issues or objection.

I am also in the same situation but I had written to the HomeOffice. They have confirmed that I can submit my previously used IELTS certificate.

Good luck

I'm in the same situation, do you guys have the email address to get it confirmed? I passed a C2 level from College of Excellence in 2011, but not sure if they will accept it still for ILR application as it is no longer in supported exam list.

I think there is no harm to retake the exam as for ILR we need only B1 level ( listening and speaking) instead of C1 or c2 . Also we can use this certificate for naturalisation etc. please correct me if I am wrong ?

I thought we needed a C1 for ILR, as the main applicant. Do we need B1?
