Does anyone understand what does the stats says in terms of how many applications have been made since April 2015 and how many have been processed and how many are pending ?

For that you have to raise specific FOI requests to HO, for e.g. I posted mine a little earlier today: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ ... ions_i/new

I think the most important news is that the refusal rate jumped from 6% in previous quarter to 15% in this one. Not good news.

They couldn't have made it more confusing!! For example...Quote: "There were 112,407 decisions about British citizenship, 40% fewer than in the previous year (188,910). Correspondingly, there were 42% fewer people granted British citizenship (-75,908 to 105,043). This was the lowest annual figure since 2002 (120,121)."

40% less applicants thus 42% less approvals!!!! This is nuts. Although true, but so misleading.

That's the trick with stats....it's how you read them. Either less people applied or HO processed way less applications compared to other years. Whatever it is, this is not something that HO should be applauded for.
Be good.

Previous post has stated that majority of refusals has been due to the fact that you would need to be in country on date of application 5 year ago. Most of the people get that wrong which results in refusals

I believe the approvals which they have been quoting is for pending March approvals. I could hardly see any April applicant approval. My friends daughter has applied for citizenship and they havent recceived anything yet.

Another way of reading this is that the number of failed naturalisation applications has remained almost constant.
Last year - 7959
This year - 7364

The success rate of citizenship (I presume it means naturalisation + registration) applications is
This year - 93.44%
Last year - 95.79%

I presume that the slight dip is due to the tightened good character requirements introduced in December 2014.

You mean to say that they have decided 17000+ applicant from April till June. That doesnt sound allright because its around 50% decision which has been taken . Where are the approvals letter then ?

If you look at the data carefully, it doesn't mean that the 17k approvals were all for 2015Q2 submissions. For example. The number of total decisions in 2014Q4 exceeds the number of applications submitted during that time period. They likely include some applications that have not been decided on previously, potentially from a 1-2+ years back even.

Those of you into stats may find the statistics from a European level (albeit two years old) interesting.

http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics ... statistics

The UK is not the largest contributor to the enlargement of the EU population pool, Spain is (though that appears to be because of how Spain calculates it's stats). Germany with a bigger population has about half the grants of citizenship as that of the UK. Finally, almost twice as many Moroccans acquired EU citizenship as compared to Indians and Turks.
