Confirmed return ticket while boarding flight ,outside EU

Post by Bobthemoggie » Thu Jan 05, 2017 11:15 am

Dear Members,

My parents will be travelling to the Netherlands on Type-C schemes visa [ Its actually requested under non-EU family members of EU citizen EC/38/2004 directive]

But visa endorsement itself doesn’t indicate anything about family visit / EU directive but only states Type-C Single Entry visa for Schegenstates valid for 90 days (with remark BNL2)

Now, I would like to know while boarding the flight from outside EU, will my parents need to bring along confirmed return ticket to airline desk.

- Scenario1: Don’t book any return ticket
- Scenario2: Buy a separate itinerary (but not a confirmed ticket) of return travel
- Scenario 3: Independent of First journey, buy separate fully refundable ticket for journey backward directly from Airline. Cancel or amend journey after travel
- Scenario 4: Part refundable tickets - Unable to find any information about it. KINDLY ADVISE - Can two separate tickets of Onward & Backward journey make return ticket or it has to be on Same page ?

Could you please advise what will be the best & safe option, as getting turned down at Airline checkin due to return ticket is not best option and at the same time its not wise idea to pay hefty sum for ticket which we will most probably not going to use

Kindly advise

Cheers

It does not have to be the same airline or even the same ticket. You can book a separate ticket back. It's better to book a fully refundable ticket and then cancel it once your parents have boarded.

Alternately, use a service like flyonward which charges around $10 and gives you a 24 hour validity ticket. The benefit is that you don't have to wait for a refund from the airline/travel agent.
