URGENT! Help getting passport back citizenship application

Hi all,

My wife applied for Irish Naturalisation 5 weeks ago and has still not received her passport back, we are going on holidays in 2 weeks time and are starting to panic it will not arrive in time.

I have emailed Citizenship Info and tried all day to call the number provided on the website, but no-one is picking up the call and no-one has replied to the emails.

Does anyone have any other contacts or idea on how we can get in touch to see about getting the passport back ASAP.

You can contact them in writing requesting her passport back, be aware that her application might be put on hold until the passport is returned to them.

its says on the website allow atleast 6 week for the return of passport did you not take that into account when you were applying for citizenship also word of advise it clearly says on the website if you request ur passport earlier we will hold you application and ask you to re submit your passport at your return.

Yes we took the 'can take up to 6 weeks' into consideration, but per our circumstances we needed to take the 'risk' and apply now. Not after the holidays.

Is there another phone number or email that actually work? Or is the only way to get it back is via writing? which could take a while in itself.

it say '' ATLEAST TAKE UP TO 6 WEEKS''

and as you said your willing to take the risk as citizenship was priority then my opinion would be not to request your passport back as you know it might delay your application process

Return of passports after applying for citizenship by naturalisation

Please allow at least 6 weeks for your passport to be returned. If you think you'll need your passport soon after you make an application (eg for travel), you should postpone your application until you return.

Before this people on this site had their passport back within 2-3 weeks.

I've emailed this address and called that number 50times today but it's not connecting.

The phoneline will be closing soon today won't be open again until Thursday, they usually reply e-mail queries pretty quick. Did you provided your wife's full name or passport number on your e-mail? I guess you don't have a reference number yet.

I applied seven weeks ago and still haven't received my passport back. Good luck - let us know what you hear back.

Hi all,

I finally got through on that phone line after trying 100times.

They are currently working on applications submitted in early April. So I was advised to wait until next Thursday, if I haven't gotten it back by then they said to call them, see where it's at, and if need be, I can travel to Tipperary and collect it in person (although this will pause the application).

@morigami I'd suspect as you submitted at the start of April you should get your passport back this week/early next week.

Going to be a close call I reckon - but thanks to everyone who tried to help out.

Hi everyone.

I sent an email about my passport and application. Just received a reply from the Citizenship Division:

We are currently dealing with a backlog of new applications and are dealing with post received in this office around mid to late March. You should be receiving an acknowledgement letter in due course regarding your application and your passport will be returned with this correspondence.

Crazy delays. It sounds like they haven't opened any post received in the last eight weeks.

@morigami makes sense as mid-late March was when Article 50 triggered so I'm sure a lot of that backlog is because of higher volumes due to Brexit. I applied at the end of January and received my passport and acknowledgement letter back in 12 days (total) but that would have been before the rush. It also probably explains why things have gone very quiet on the 2017 timeline thread on this forum since just before the last ceremony. If you compare this time last year (in the 2016 tracker) to this year there is much less activity.

I know that probably doesn't help much and I can empathize with any one feeling anxiety about the wait especially where its your actual passport - I was terrified I'd not get mine back in time for a holiday I had booked in March but luckily in my case it came very quickly - things are dragging now though but I guess that's just the way it goes!

Got my passport yesterday May31st, originally submitted on Apr10th. Hope that helps anyone give an idea of when they will get theirs back.
My suggestion to be on the safe side if you are planning trips is leave at least 7 full weeks for your passport to comeback, ideally 8 to be extra safe.

I don't have any holidays planned soon. I decided to leave 10 full weeks with no trips. I received an acknowledgement letter indeed.

I did. Just this morning. Received along with my receipt for the fee along with my 1st stage letter. Can't believe it took them 10 weeks.
