Conditional Discharge - Good character requirement

Post by Aoili » Wed Mar 07, 2018 2:17 pm

Hello

I was recently given a 6 month conditional discharge for ABH at magistrates court. Initially my lawyer told me it would be a conviction but after the hearing she said she was corrected by the prosecutor, saying that it wouldn't be a conviction and it would not be on my record after 6 months. I just wanted to check if this was correct.

I was planning on naturalising as a British citizen in July but with this discharge i'll be unable to. However, will I still be able to apply in September (6 months from now) and not disclose it on the naturalisation form as its allegedly not on my record? Or were they mistaken and it will be on my record just not as a conviction meaning I have to wait for 3 years to pass as it states on the form.

I would greatly appreciate your help!
Thank you
