Skilled Worker Visas for Contract work at >£300/day

Post by James.Dunlop » Fri Nov 30, 2018 3:11 pm

Skilled Worker is not a visa for freelancers (nor was Tier 2). BUT if you have what it takes to be a successful freelancer mainly

A) The technical skills to command a good 'charge out rate' (say >£300/day),

and

B) The business/entrepreneurial acumen to identify opportunities in the contract market,

Then you have a valuable combination of skills that should make you attractive to a consultancy.

If you already have an offer in hand, get in touch, and I can help you / the company.

If you don't have an offer (and in these covid days, getting interviews is not always easy), you will maximize your chances by:

1) Don't be longwinded: Condense your CV, & treat the first page as your 'shopfront' for the details that will get you hired

2) It is a full time job to get a job: Putting something on your linkedIn profile & siting back waiting for the world to find you is just playing the lottery. This is a numbers game. 10 applications a day, x 5-7 days a week, for c3 months will mean you have pursued more than 600 opportunities. That should give you an offer or two to choose from.

There are 2 big improvements as we enter 2021

* ICT visa holders can now switch into Skilled Worker Visas, without 'cooling off' complications.

* Companies now have to sponsor new talent they hire from the EU. When the UK had a 'domestic market' of 500million people, some companies didn't bother other the globe's >6 billion others. Now that we have a domestic population of only 70m, few businesses of any size will have have a 'no Expats' policy.

Good luck searching
