Category F confusion

Post by naija99 » Wed Dec 26, 2018 6:33 am

Good morning forum
Is it possible to combine salaried employment with self employment to meet the financial requirements?
The sponsor was employed from 2015 to July 2018, then became self employed from August 2018. He is director and shareholder and only received August salary from the self employment and then dividends.
The company doesn’t yet have a tax return or accounts or anything else. The application was therefore refused for failing to submit the documents in Appendix FM SE.

Is there any way around this? Can employment and self employment be combined for a new company that doesn’t yet have a tax return?

Morning
Could someone please advise on this one?

Would it be possible for the sponsor to go under category A non salaried by combining his old employment payslips (Dec 2017 to July 2018) with his new self employment payslips (Aug 2018 to Dec 2018) to make a full 12 months to be relied upon.

Would he need to ensure to pay himself a salary because for Nov 2018 he paid himself a dividend. Could this be viewed as a salary?

No. salaried/non-salaried employment cannot be combined with self employment.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

You would have to declare the employment income received between apr 18 to july 18 in addition to the dividends/ self employment income under self assesment after 5 April 2019. This would then comine your income under self assesment where you will need to provide needed evidence.

If you are taking salary/dividends out of your own company then you will also need to provide company accounts along with long list of documents that fall under this category.
