Child benefit

Post by Charmmagne » Sun Jun 09, 2019 10:19 pm

Hi, I need advise if I am eligible to claim for child benefit for my baby. I have just been granted my IlR status this January 2019, and have applied for her citizenship in March 2019. She was granted a british citizen status just this May and I have applied for her passport and child benefit. My husband is on a dependent visa and will have to wait two more years before he can apply and be eligible for ILR. My friends told me today that my it might be a wrong decision for me to apply for child benefit considering my husband is still on a dependent visa and that it might affect my chances of being granted british citizenship next year. Is it right for me to assume that since I am on ILR status, I have recourse to public funds in addition to my child being a british citizen too? If not, what should I do? I have already sent out my application by post two weeks ago. Please enlighten me. Thanks :)

It's fine to claim CB, providing it's in your name only.

Hi, but the form asked me to write my husband’s details. However, the bank account details I wrote were mine and I remember if it was just me who signed.

You need to state your spouse details but claim in your name as the applicant.

I am on ILR and my child is on dependent Visa (No resource to Public Fund) but i am receiving Child benefit for him in my name. Because its me (Applicant) who claims "Not the child".

Therefore its ok and shall have no problem at all in his extension/ILR.

@CR001: I am sure you will approve this based on your knowledge and experience?
