Child's passport

Hi,

My first child was born in the UK, parents myself and my wife both have ILR.

Since child is born here, it is already British citizen and I do not need to apply for naturalization / citizenship for the child. I can directly apply for child's passport - is that correct ?

While filling child's passport application online, they ask for grandparent's documents birth certificate.
Is that a mandatory document ? Since grandparents live in India it is bit inconvenient to get them. So checking whether those are a must. Has anyone applied without grandparents documents ?

Grandparent docs not required.

Child born after we got ILR.

So, no need to apply for naturalization / citizenship for child correct ?

Hi there,
Get the form from post office. Fill the form and send through post.
You don't need to fill grand parents detail in paper form.
No need to apply for naturalization. You can directly apply for passport. I did the same. Waiting for the result now

On page 17 this is mentioned.

"About grandparents: If the applicant’s parents were born on or after 1 January 1983, you will also need to provide evidence of grandparents’ claim to British nationality by providing their birth certificates and, in the case of grandfathers, their marriage certificates."



Didn't quite get that - "you will also need to provide evidence of grandparents’ claim to British nationality by providing their birth certificates"

what is grandparents' claim to British nationality. They are not claiming to be British nationals. bit confusing.

My wife was born after 1983.

Grandparents details are irrelevant.

Thanks, another question. My baby was born in Kingston (Kingston Upon Thames). The birth certificate mentions the town as "Kingston". In the passport application form should I just mention Kingston or London under Town of birth ?

I have submitted the online application. Child's Identity step completed. Now I received an email informing I need to send the supporting documents and the list of document indicates to send grand parents details - because one of parent was born after 1983 (below docs):

Grandparents’ documents

Send all of the following for both maternal grandparents:

full birth or adoption certificate
grandfather’s marriage certificate to your grandmother (if this applies)

And all of the following for both paternal grandparents:

full birth or adoption certificate
grandfather’s marriage certificate to your grandmother (if this applies)


Since grandparents are not UK citizens, would not sending their documents affect the application processing ?
