CHILD BENEFITS AND NATURALISATION.

Post by bizman » Mon Jan 06, 2020 9:14 pm

My wife and I just got our ILR with all our six children. We want to apply for child benefit, hope it will not affect our British citizenship application in any way. Someone should please us.

You may also be entitled to Universal Credit, depending on your circumstances.

Thanks for your response Amber,
My children ages are 15, 14, 11, 9, 7, 5. My wife is not working at the moment, she is looking after my sickle child full time, although she is planning to work self employed soon. We own our house but pays mortgage.

Many thanks

You should claim UC, if you have a child with a health condition you should claim DLA for that child. Please contact Citizens Advice help to claim (click).

Hello Amber, I have another question. I found out the universal credit links smartness together, there is a question about capital, shares or savings in the bank account. I was initially a Tier1 entrepreneur before ILR and had invested 200k into share, though I had so many challenges in my business and been making losses over the last two years. Should I still declare the 200k share investment for UC purposes or it’s not necessary. I have borrowed more than 100k to keep the business moving. Though I am hoping to break even this time around.

What happened to that £200,000 investment, do you have assets for that e.g. buildings?

Assets which are used wholly or mainly for the purposes of a trade, profession or vocation which the person is carrying on, are disregarded indefinitely under the UC Regs 2013, Sch 10, para 7.

The 200k was investment into the company and it has actually gone. I had to loan the company another 140k to still be ongoing. I am presently building a block of 3 flats which would be sold and 5he money will be reinvested less my loan to the company. I expect about 250k from the sale.
According to your last statement, this will be disregarded as it is basically for my trade. Kindly confirm.

When you say loan the company £140k, where is that coming from, do you have external savings separate from the company?

It’s loan from family and friends. Just want the company to survive, it seems I might break even this year hopefully

Thanks Amber, I have actually contacted them, they asked both of us to create an account for UC as it has to be linked, though my wife is not working at the moment , she is looking after our sickle children.

I thank you so much for your help. God bless you.

That is correct. You can request they book you a face to face appointment for you both, they will complete the application for you and advise you about the business.
