student lawful resident

Post by angelbr » Sat Aug 29, 2020 8:50 pm

Hello, everyone!
I am European and thinking of applying for BC.
The first 9 months of my stay in the UK I was in uni, which I dropped out of, and for which I didn't have CSI.
I started working after 10 months, and have been working since.
I have a certificate of the residence I was staying at and proof of payments to the uni.
Can I start my application immediately?

Do you have a permanent residence document/card (DCPR) or Settled Status and since when?

You can apply Feb 2021 after completing 12 months on settled status.

Regarding CSI, yes you should have had that if a student, however many EU citizens were not aware of the requirement. When/if you are asked whether you had CSI you just need to answer correctly "no" and explain why not. You will have seen a lot of discussions about this requirement, however so far there have been no cases reported where lack of CSI lead to rejection of a naturalisation application. But use your document from the uni to document that period.

Thanks for clarifying that!
I was thinking instead of applying in February and get rejected because of not being able to prove my residence it would be better to wait till May, as since then i would be fully documented.
It is only a few months waiting time and I would not want to risk it.
Better safe than sorry.

You did say you have a residence document from the uni (irrespective of the CSI aspect) but clearly if you feel more comfortable applying later that's not an issue. If you have any further questions please come back and post in this thread.

So, I have a letter from the residence I was staying from October 2015 to June 2016. it was not a university residence per se but a lot of young people and students resided there.

old reference letters

Post by angelbr » Tue Sep 01, 2020 4:31 pm

Hello, all!
I am going to apply for BC next year, and I am starting to obtain all the necessary documents.
If I obtain the referee letters now (September 2020) and submit them in March-May 2021, will they still be valid?
Is it better to wait to get them closer to the day of application?
Thank you!

Best to keep all your postings in one thread ....

What referee letters are these?
Referees for naturalisation don't provide letters, they fill and sign a form you get as part of the online application.

Personally I'd recommend to get the referee forms signed closer to your application date - referees could potentially change addresses or even change their mind about signing.

This one. Note that it is not an actual letter you need. The referee forms are part of the inline application that you need to complete. You then download and print them, post to your referees with a photo stuck on of you. They then sign and send them back to you so you can upload them with your documents.

Thanks for putting it all under one thread (didn't know it works like this!)
So I am now trying to understand the whole process and obviously I had misunderstood some nuances of it.
I am about to ask some of my acquaintances to be my referees; so, if they agree, I wait to fill the form online next year and then send it to them once I print it, right?

Yes. Note also that your referees must have known you for 3 years minimum.

Company director

Post by angelbr » Wed Sep 02, 2020 7:55 am

Good morning and thank you again for helping out!
Apparently my situation isn’t as smooth as I had initially though, hopefully though all will be dealt with in time.
I created my own company, and I appear as it’s director, but haven’t filed it yet. With corona in the middle it is not active and doesn’t do any trading. (It is not dormant yet).
What would the best way to address this be, as I am seeing I will be asked if I am a director of a limited company during the application?

Provide all the details required/you have and noting "not trading yet" - if necessary explain on a separate note and upload with your other documents.
You say "haven't filed yet" - you mean accounts or other documents to be submitted to Companies House? This is quite normal with many applicants having their own companies in addition to employment.

Post by angelbr » Tue Sep 08, 2020 6:43 pm

Hello!
Just one more clarification, please, as I am about to book my ielts.
Should I apply for the one named: IELTS Life Skills B1, or IELTS for UKVI General Training?

Ielts for BC

Post by angelbr » Tue Sep 08, 2020 7:05 pm

Do you happen to know which one I should chose? I can see "IELT for UKVI" in the list of accepted tests on gov.uk, but B1 Life skills is recommended on the British Council page for those applying for citizenship...

Hey guys!
Can you confirm my referee can be a person that has recently acquired British citizenship via naturalisation?
