Marriage Photo Paranoia

Post by Sean7398 » Fri Sep 05, 2008 7:09 pm

Hi. I am a UK citizen and my wife lives in India. She is just about to submit her settlement visa application. She was showing the agent who is helping her apply, our application. She showed him our marriage photos and marriage certificate. We had an arranged marriage via a civil ring ceremony last year and everything went really well. The photos that we have submitted are of the ring ceremony and a few family photos etc. We did not have a religious marriage. But the agent guy started asking her questions like, "why haven't you got any pictures with both of you with garlands around your head and going round a fire", ermmm..maybe because we didn't have all that stuff at our ring ceremony. Why should we have that if we legitimately got married anyway???

He's got us paranoid, but the truth is we got married that day very simply and we have the certificate and the TRUE photos to prove it. It seems stupid to think that just because two people don't have garlands around their heads, it is not evidence of a marriage.

Will we get rejected becuse of this?

Sack the advisor, he is talking utter bulls*it. A couple of pictures of the event are needed, if only to prove you have met and it is / was not a proxy marriage. That is all the pictures are about nothing more. Some people send reams of the stuff, it is just not needed.

That agent doesn't understand a ring ceremony and he is going on about walking round a fire because that is the important factor of a hindu wedding, but like it has been said so long as you have the certificate that should be fine.

I dont think the UK has anything to do with the fire rounds... As long as you are married lawfully in a country doesnt matter if its a hindu, cristian or other marraige ...

If its lawful and registered thats enough....

Maybe this solicitor has a commission in selling wood and coal for the fire... Idiot... tell him to learn more about the laws.

Its just ridiculous isn' t it. This agent does not even know the new 27 month setlement visa extension. He is saying that we need to apply within 28 days of leaving.

There's all kinds of semi-literate people calling themselves 'agents' in India. you will be better off doing things on your own and asking around.
