ILR application - question on dates

Post by scallopsnshit » Mon Jan 11, 2021 10:58 am

Hi guys,

I'm on my second round of an Ancestry Visa, and I'm a little confused as to when to start my application, as my dates are all over the place.

I first got the visa in 2011, lived and worked in the UK until January 2015. Then I returned to Australia. After this, I returned to the UK on 18/05/16, left UK on 31/05/16 to backpack Europe.
I came back to the UK on 27/07/16, left again 30/07/16 to Budapest for a holiday, returned 06/08/16 and then got a job and started the process of extending my Ancestry visa. My visa now expires on 30/11/2021, but I'm wondering if I can start the process earlier, as I technically returned to the UK in May and only left for 2 months?

Sorry for being all over the place, this is all very confusing to me

Many thanks

You can apply no sooner than within 28 days before the 5th anniversary of the date your initial visa was issued/granted in 2016.

Even though I'll have been in the UK for 5 consecutive years from August?

You simply need to list any absences after the date you entered the UK in 2016 when you returned to the uk

It doesn't start from your new visa. There is no rule that you can only apply after 5 years on the new visa.

ILR via Ancestry route

Post by scallopsnshit » Fri Jan 15, 2021 9:58 am

Hi guys,

I have a couple questions re: my application.

I took ~2 months to go travelling around Europe shortly after I arrived in the UK, on the online application it only lets you put one country in - do I need to add all the countries I visited with the correct dates even though I was just out of the UK for one big block of time? Do I need to provide proof of all my travels (ie plane tickets)

When submitting the application, do I need to post all my documents off? If so, do they keep them all for ~the six month processing time, mainly the passport? Or do they scan that at the biometrics appointment?

cheers!

List first and last country
Add a brief letter or spreadsheet of the exact travel and countries.

No evidence such as tickets required. Only passports.

No originals are sent to ukvi. You apply online and once submitted you upload digitally to ukcvas before your ukcvas biomteric appointment you have to book.

So on the application it allows you to put one country in at a time - for example, I'd enter Greece 31/5/16-28/7/16, and then add Belgium on the same dates on a new page? And explain in further detail on a letter then?

So theres no posting of documents at all then? For example, while my application is being processed, I could theoretically still leave the country?

UK entry/exit dates matter only. Add the final destination to list the entry. Add the transit country within the same dates in the reason section.

Okay thank you for that!
I've now been informed by a friend that once your application is in, you can't leave the country until you have a decision, so now my questions are answered. Thanks loads!

Correct, you should not travel while application is pending

Brilliant, thanks!
Just wondering as well, my passport runs out 21/10/21, and I’m planning on applying for ILR in May this year - will this be okay? We’re currently unable to renew passports as an Australian in the UK due to covid
