Citizenship for Child

Post by sandyacc01 » Thu Jan 21, 2021 12:54 pm

Hi,

My daughter was born in India in 2014 and at that time I was in Tier 2 ICT

I got my british passport through Naturalisation in 2016 and my wife got her ILR in Jan 2021. Now I am applying for my daughters citizenship. Could you please advise if I need to register my daughters for citizenship through MN1 ?

Also I believe naturalisation is only for 18+ and not for kids. Please confirm

Thanks

She needs ilr first as she was born abroad. She has no entitlement to register as British if born abroad.

As one parent is a British citizen and the other parent is on ILR, the child can apply directly for ILE (if abroad)/ILR (if in the UK).

She can then apply to register as a British citizen immediately after she has been granted ILR.
