Covering letters

Post by priya_bhosale » Tue Oct 28, 2008 6:50 pm

Hello all,

Just would like to get the views of knowledgeable members of this forum!

Does one need to provide separate covering letters for each section of the application? Or if just one covering letter is more advisable?

I am an extension application under the new rules. There are a few complications in my earnings section and the rest of my application is straightforward. Hence I am providing a letter from employer explaining these complications under the previous section.

Do i also need to provide separate covering letters for rest of the sections as well? Please also note that along with the main covering letter, I am also having a main section named 'explanation of supporting documents' where all the documents supplied have been explained.

So the order is somewhat like this:

Main covering letter

Explanation of supporting documents (all sections covered)

Qualification (only the evidence no separate covering letter)

Earnings (evidence and letter from emploer explaining the complications)

Age (only the evidence no separate covering letter)

UK Experience (only the evidence no separate covering letter)

English language requirement (only the evidence no separate covering letter)

Maintenance funds (only the evidence no separate covering letter)

Your views will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

1. Main covering letter

2. Explanation of supporting documents (all sections covered)

I think 1 & 2 can be combined. Rest seems fine.

One comprehensive letter along with PBS calculator summary printout would be fine. If you were a caseworker, would you like to read so many cover letters for one application? Important thing is to provide all necessary supporting evidences to your application.

As push-hsmp always says if ur case is straight forward even 1 cover letter is not required;

kiss-keep it simple n straight

1 cover letter is more than enough

In my view, you can provide separate cover letter for each section of the application. In fact I provided the same for my initial as well as extension application. Providing separate cover letter not only make your application more presentable and easy to navigate but also successfully help to distinguish documents from other documents and work as partitions between sections.
Though it is not mandatory to provide covering letter not even single, but as said you have to put your best foot forward(especially for postal application as applicants cannot explain things to caseworker personally). Your individual cover letter need not have to wirte everythings. Expect Salary cover salary, I only mentioned (Points Claimed, Document Submitted for that section) in it.

Happy to send template to anybody who needs it.

cover letter

Post by krishna1215 » Mon Oct 12, 2009 11:16 pm

Hi chetan,

Thanks a lot. Received it. It would be v helpful.

1) Cover Letter

2) Master cover letter
By the way, is the Master cover letter treated as individual cover letter for each section. I could see that each section is mentioned on different page. Looks like this is Cover letter for each section. Isnt it?

Happy to do that, but it is loosing its formatting without which it is just another text.
