EU3 application with expiring passport

Hi,
My husband's EU1 is expiring in January and he is about to apply for EU3. His passport is also expiring in January and it will take 2 months to get a new one due to long processing times in his home country. Can he apply for EU3 using his not yet but nearly expired passport or does he need to wait until he gets his new passport? If he has to wait he is likely to be without a valid residence card and passport in the new year.

Hello Frankie,

I applied for my EU3 with the expiry date on passport less than 5 months.

The application was received and an acknowledgment letter was sent.

You can write in your covering letter, explaining the constraints as regards the renewal of the passport.

There should be no issues, I believe.
