SET M to Citizenship?

Post by biggshot » Mon Nov 10, 2008 4:57 pm

I am in the UK since 2004 on a work-permit and then in Dec 2006 I applied for FLR (M) while I was in the UK. In Dec 2008 I will apply for ILR based on 2 years of marriage. Can I then immediately apply for citizenship based on 5 years in the UK?

If you are married to a British Citizen you only need to have been resident in the UK for 3 years.

So yes, once you are granted ILR you can apply for British citizenship, though you would need to have been in the UK exactly 3 years before your applicant ie if you apply 1st February next year you would have needed to be in the UK 1st February 2006.
