First British Passport after Naturalisation

Post by kankerot » Thu May 02, 2024 6:12 pm

So wife gained British citizenship a few years ago but we didn't apply for a passport as we were not planning on traveling.

Now have renewed her US passport - am I correct that for the British passport I need to send in her US passport? I mean what is the reasoning behind this?

Yes, that's correct (plus her naturalisation cert).

This is a regular procedure, HMPO want to ensure that all documents presented bear the same name - i.e. they like to avoid people holding travel documents with different names. They also check the authenticity of documents, for example the paper used and printing style.

All documents you submit will be returned.
