Extension have approved only for 2 Years (Urgent)

Post by xpwistler » Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:45 am

Hi All,

I have been approved for 2 years instead of 3 years. Initially I was granted the Visa for 2 years and my visa was expiring sep 2009, I applied for extension in July and got the extension at 26th July but strange think is that they have only extended for 2 years insteadf of 3 years.

Is there a Home office mistake?
Should I contact them and confirm?
Have any one been granted for 2 years instead of 3 years.

Please help as it is so urgent

thats definately looks like mistake. Even if you apply early , you should get 3 years. I applied 8 months in advance and got 3 years from the current expiry date!

Initially it was HSMP so it was only 2 years of initial visa + 3years of extension, now it has been changed to Tier1 so it should be 2 years of HSMP and extension should be for 3 years.

yes this is my understanding as well - if intially applied under HSMP and got visa for 2 years intially, then the extension must be for 3 years.

They definetly made a mistake in your visa extension. otherwise may be the law have changed very recently? I doubt it

Actually the question from xp is a good one....

with the current news of ILR extended to 8 years rather than 5 years - should the extensions of visa stays also be increased accordingly. so if one have 2 years intial HSMP - should the extension be for 6 years? or may be they are reducing it to 2 years - then another 2 - then another 2..

its a bussiness for the HO after all

I think ILR still is after 5 years it has not been changed yet,

I still belive that, they have done the mistake to granting 2 years visa.

Does any one know the email of HO to present this issue.

You were granted Visa first time in sep 2007, when it was HSMP (and not TIER 1) - am I right? If yes, you should get 3 years extension this time.

HSMP EXTENSION ONLY 2 YEARS

Post by vimg07 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 6:38 pm

I think its a mistake

Refer Page10 of policy guidance

Periods of grant:
Entry Clearance and Leave to Remain where previous grant of leave was not as a Tier 1 (General) participant (switching) - 3 Years

Just to re-affirm things at our end.

Are you sure the visa extension is until Sep 2011? and NOT Sep 2012?

'am not questioning your maths but just that we tend to overlook when we are all excited.

I was also granted an extension for 2 years in April. I wrote to the person who signed at the end of the covering letter and referred to the new policy guidelines. He called me few days later and asked me to resubmit my passport. Origina stamp was cancelled and visa was revised for 3 years.
